Introduction to this Week’s Texts

The grumbling of the Pharisees and the scribes in today’s gospel is actually our holy hope: This Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them. That our God wills to seek and to save the lost is not only a holy hope, it is our only hope. As Paul’s first letter to Timothy reminds us, "The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." Thanks be to God.

Prayer

O God, overflowing with mercy and compassion, you lead back to yourself all those who go astray. Preserve your people in your loving care, that we may reject whatever is contrary to you and may follow all things that sustain our life in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Prayer for those in need in our Community of Faith

Gracious and loving God, provide strength and comfort to those who are ill in mind, body or spirit, and show your compassion to all who mourn.  Show mercy to the ill: Jaydan Bauschke, Jeanette Beach, Jan Belsby, Lauren Brown, Elizabeth Bunck, Dana Chaney, Jill Coffey, Lou Compton, Cheryl Devlin, Lorraine Doss, Vince Evangelista, Nick Feichthaler, Carol Frail, Toni Glubka, George Glubka, Virginia Gronau, Dennis Gustin, Lynda Hanfner, Christopher Hunt, Sally Jensen, Bob Keegan, Don Palow, Ruth Richards, Nadine Russell, Donna Siebenaler, Patricia Smith, Steve Smith, Lillian Temple, Charlene Tomlinson, and those we name in our hearts.  Strengthen those who mourn, especially the family and friends of Pr.
